Book
“Judy, which
Bible verses comfort and encourage you when you are battling poor
health?” asked Teri. “I’d like to share them with a friend who
is ill.”
Teri’s question
stayed in Judy’s mind long after she gave verses to her. Years
later Teri’s request led to the writing of God of All Comfort:
Devotions of Comfort, Strength & Hope for Those Who Chronically
Suffer.
A devotional
book, God of All Comfort explores God’s Word in order to
find the comfort, strength, and hope to cope with the pain, limitations,
and other challenges of living with illness. Both the scripture
passages and anecdotes relate to issues those with chronic and
serious illness deal with daily.
God of All Comfort is based on the author’s experience living with chronic
illness as well as that of seventeen other people who share their
hearts and stories within the pages of this book.

description:
God’s Word is the focal point of each devotional. Both the Bible verses and the anecdotes relate to issues those with serious illness deal with daily. These issues include pain, weakness, identity, loss of independence, loneliness, and facing death. Each devotional illustrates how God uses scripture to encourage us in the midst of pain.
The God of All Comfort is based on the author’s experience living with chronic illness as well as that of seventeen other people who share their stories within the pages of this book. Illnesses include a variety of autoimmune-system disorders, cancer, and Lou Gehrig’s disease, as well as several other chronic and serious illnesses. The book strives to help readers recognize themselves in their struggles and feel less alone in their pain.

“Judy Gann’s prayerful reflections on a life stamped
with chronic pain, makes a companion of all of us, pain or no
pain. Nothing purges Christian witness of cliché and platitude
more effectively than suffering. These sentences are pure “silver
refined in a furnace on the ground, purified seven times” (Psalm
12:6).”
—Eugene Peterson, author The Message
“As both a physician and one who battles chronic
illness, I highly recommend Judy Gann’s book… In more than 50
short devotionals, she offers rare, secret glimpses into the real
lives of those who are ill, which will not only resonate and comfort
those who are ill, but will also enlighten and surprise readers
who wish to understand the arduous journey through the valley
of illness.”

“There are four places to find comfort:
on your knees to Jesus, the Bible, in the arms of Father God,
and
by reading The God of All Comfort. You will draw real comfort
from real people decimated by dealing with real illness and disabilities,
some like yours, some like mine. Drink in, inhale these devotions
and they will calm and soothe you like the balm of Gilead. Those
in pain will keep this book close to their bedside.”
—Steve Appel, Director of Communications and Media
Joni and Friends, the disability outreach of Joni Eareckson Tada
“Living with a chronic illness is perhaps
one of the loneliest battles people face, but thankfully, God
promises to put the
lonely in families. Judy Gann opens her heart in God
of All Comfort: Devotions of Comfort, Strength, & Hope for
Those Who Chronically Suffer, inviting you into her
home and her family. One where people share--both joys and struggles,
and tears as well as hugs.
You won’t be able to put this book down because it will
likely reflect your soul.” —Lisa Copen, Director
of Rest Ministries, Inc.
